One Step at a Time (2024)

Laminate flooring, wood, skirting board, concrete.

72 x 72 x 14 cm

One Step at a Time is juxtaposed with commonplace items such as a pencil, a staircase and a scrunched-up post-it-note all acting as mementoes and collectively building a narrative and a sense of nostalgia. Enoch reconstructs and assembles these subjects in unconventional manners, bringing different and new perspectives to surface.

The utalised language toys with the technique of personification, expressing inanimate objects with vitality and human-like qualities. Etched into the concrete, it reads ‘One step at a time’ followed by ‘I wish you were here’ on an old discarded postcard. The postcard is embedded into the floorboard with a sense of care and consideration as it is framed with skirting board.

Here, the artwork addresses past happenings, but also offers a nod to future beginnings with an air of growth, progression, and longing.
